Average Age of American Vehicles Will Continue Increase through 2015

The Detroit Bureau - March 27, 2014

The average age of vehicles on US roads is getting even longer, according to a new IHS Automotive survey. The average age should go up to 11.5 years in 2015; although with the strong sales volume recently of new vehicles, the numbers should be pushed down after 2015. IHS consultant Tom Libby said the number of miles driven by Americans has stopped growing in recent years, which was influenced by rising gas prices, a higher unemployment rate, and demographic shifts.
