Used Retail Units See Softer Demand in January

Total used sales were off less than one per­cent – down 0.72% in Jan­u­ary 2014 vs. a year ago main­ly in states that suf­fered from severe weath­er con­di­tions dur­ing. For used retail vehi­cles sold in Jan­u­ary 2014, it came in at 2,337,941; in Jan­u­ary 2013 the sales fig­ure came in at 2,354,927.

Fran­chised Deal­ers had a 2.4% Gain – 851,116 vs. 831,155 a Year Ago:
Inde­pen­dents down 0.57% at 823,945 and Pri­vate Par­ty Up 4.6% at 695,087.

Fran­chised Sees Biggest Gains in Trans­ac­tion Prices — $13,512 vs. $12,666:
Pri­vate Par­ty Up to $7,285 from $6,746 and Inde­pen­dents down to $6,718 from $6,873.

Num­ber of Sub-550 FICO Score Con­sumers Grew Over Last Year:
In Jan­u­ary 2014 they made up 20.65% of total used sales vs. 15.01% in Jan­u­ary 2013.
