Kontos Forecast of Modest Price Softening Continues

ADESA’s Whole­sale Used Vehi­cle Prices by Vehi­cle Mod­el Class saw prices in June aver­age $9,516 – down 2.9% from May and 3.7% from June 2012. For the half-year mar­ket, prices are down 3.1% year-over-year. Con­sis­tent with Kon­tos’ fore­cast that prices will soft­en mod­est­ly through this year because of antic­i­pat­ed sup­ply growth of about 5%. Soft­en­ing mar­ket envi­ron­ment in June made its way across near­ly all car, truck, and crossover seg­ments.

Man­u­fac­tur­er UV Prices Were Up 5.7% Month-Over Month:
But were down 0.9% year-over-year and were based on lim­it­ed vol­ume.

Prices for Fleet/Lease Con­signors Down 2.9% Month­ly, but Up 1.8% Annu­al­ly:
Deal­er con­signors saw 1.6% price decrease ver­sus May 2013, and 5.2% down­turn com­pared to June 2012.

CPO Vehi­cle Sales Were Down Mod­est­ly at 0.8% Month-Over-Month:
But up sig­nif­i­cant­ly at 14.4% year-over-year based on fig­ures from Auto­da­ta
