CarMax is the Giant in Retail Used Vehicle Sales

Car­Max Inc. is the giant in retail used vehi­cle sales in the US. In its 2012 fis­cal year, it sold twice as many used cars and trucks than its near­est com­peti­tor, Auto­Na­tion Inc. Car­Max spe­cial­izes in used vehi­cles up to six years old, offer­ing con­sumers no-hag­gle prices and a low-pres­sure buy­ing envi­ron­ment.

Sell­ing late-mod­el used vehi­cles pays off for Car­Max. The aver­age retail sell­ing price of for Car­Max was $18,995 in its fis­cal year end­ing Feb. 29, 2012, vs. $17,547 at fran­chise deal­er­ships for used vehi­cle trans­ac­tions in 2012, accord­ing to the Nation­al Auto­mo­bile Deal­ers Asso­ci­a­tion.
