Casual Private Party Sales Growing, Spinella Says

Casu­al, pri­vate par­ty sales is tak­ing sec­ond place behind Fran­chised deal­ers and ahead of Inde­pen­dents for June. Its run­ning 22% high­er than year ago, and has sold about 6.5M units so far this year, up 8.8% from 1st half of 2012. June is see­ing used car sales reach about 4.42 units sold over­all, for a sol­id month.

Inde­pen­dent Deal­ers Down 7% from Year Ago but Full-Year Total about Same:
Fran­chised down 7.6% from year ago – full month look­ing like 1.56M units sold.

Small­est Used-Car Inde­pen­dent and Fran­chised Deal­ers Tak­ing Brunt of Decline:
Large and medi­um-large deal­ers see­ing sales go up 2% to 4% this month.

Used Car Sales Going toward 41M for Year, Peak­ing at 43.5M in 2016:
Pri­vate par­ty will con­tin­ue to climb and reach 31% by 2020, CNW projects.
