March Auto Sales Increase for Automakers

Con­sumers pro­vid­ed strong March auto sales fig­ures for the three Detroit car­mak­ers and oth­er major automak­ers, enjoy­ing con­sis­tent boost over March 2012

Gen­er­al Motors Co. said Tues­day its March sales rose 6.4 per­cent to 245,950 vehi­cles, its best March sales total in five years.

Ford Motor Co. said sales in March rose 5.7 per­cent to 236,160, led by sales of the Fusion mid­size sedan and Escape SUV.

Nis­san North Amer­i­ca Inc. said its March U.S. sales totaled 137,726, mark­ing its best month­ly sales month ever. They were up 1 per­cent over March 2012.

Toy­ota Motor Sales USA Inc. said it sold 205,342 vehi­cles in March, up 1 per­cent over March 2012 tal­lies.

Volk­swa­gen of Amer­i­ca Inc. said its U.S. sales rose 3.1 per­cent in March, mark­ing its best March since 1973.
