Ford Working with Weyerhaeuser on Cellulosic Fibers from Trees

Ford Motor Co.’s bio­ma­te­ri­als research teams has been work­ing with for­est prod­ucts leader Wey­er­haeuser to devel­op a plas­tic com­pos­ite mate­r­i­al from cel­lu­lose fibers from trees in place of fiber­glass or min­er­al rein­force­ments. It’s part of Ford’s sus­tain­abil­i­ty strat­e­gy to reduce the company’s reliance on tra­di­tion­al con­tent such as fiber­glass and petro­le­um.
