Automation Could Reduce the Fatality Rate

John Mad­dox, a top offi­cial from the NHTSA, speak­ing at the first Dri­ver­less Car Sum­mit in Detroit, said automa­tion “can help us get to the next steep decline in the fatal­i­ty rate that we seek,” adding, “Human error is the crit­i­cal rea­son for 93% of crash­es.” As a result, the NHTSA is putting sig­nif­i­cant resources into study­ing and gath­er­ing data on automa­tion.
