NHTSA Investigating Ford Minivans, Jeep Liberty

NHTSA is inves­ti­gat­ing approx­i­mate­ly 206,000 Ford Freestar and Mer­cury Mon­terey mini­vans from the 2004–5 mod­el years for col­laps­ing tire jacks. Five con­sumer com­plaints, and one from Ford, of the jacks fail­ing led up to the inves­ti­ga­tion. The agency reports three injuries and one fatal­i­ty. In a sep­a­rate mat­ter, NHTSA is also inves­ti­gat­ing rear sus­pen­sion fail­ures on about 200,000 Jeep Lib­er­ty SUVs from the 2004–5 mod­el years.
