Lasers Could Replace Spark Plugs, Increasing Efficiency, Cutting Emissions

Autopia - April 28, 2011

Researchers based in Romania and Japan have developed a laser system that could replace bread-and-butter of vehicles’ motors — spark plugs. The researchers say their system uses small lasers that focus beams into cylinders at varying depths, allowing for more complete combustion than occurs w/ conventional spark plugs, increasing efficiency and cutting emissions.
