Ford’s Mark Fields Wants Federal Support for Development of Plug-in Hybrids

Mark Fields

The federal government should make plug-in hybrids a national priority and invest in technology, Ford’s President of the Americas Mark Fields said. Fields is concerned that governments in Japan, China, Korea, and India are funding research, development, and deployment. On the same day as Fields’ comments, Toyota announced it would offer plug-in hybrid for sale by 2010 in the U.S., Japan, and Europe with the next generation lithium-ion batteries.
