GM Sales Up in January, Other Automakers Down

Despite all the bad news in the economy and with predictions that auto sales will hit a ten-year low, General Motors reported strong January sales. Retail sales for GM were up 11% over January 2007 while overall sales climbed 2.6%, reflecting a calculated move away from sales to car rental companies. All other major automakers, including Toyota, reported year-over-year sales declines.
