European Carmakers Fuel Race Between Diesels, Hybrids in US

Behind the scenes of the clean vehicle debate is a race between diesel-powered vehicles and those with hybrid power plants. European drivers are decidedly in favor of diesels; half of current sales are equipped with diesel engines. Americans, on the other hand, seem to favor hybrids, remembering their experience with diesel cars in the 1970’s. A recent report believes diesels will win the race in the US due to cost and new diesel technologies.
