German Unions Agree to 33-Hour Work Week


Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from Volk­swa­gen AG and IG Met­all, Germany’s biggest indus­tri­al union, have agreed to increase work­ing hours at plants in west­ern Ger­many by more than four hours a week to 33 hours with­out any increase in pay. The deal guar­an­tees job secu­ri­ty to work­ers at all 6 fac­to­ries through 2011 and brings a promise of pro­duc­tion increas­es from VW.
