42 States Allow Speed Cushion; Speed a Factor in Third of All Fatal Crashes — 1,000 Die Each Month


Accord­ing to fed­er­al safe­ty reg­u­la­tors, about 1,000 peo­ple die each month in speed-relat­ed vehi­cle crash­es. Speed is a fac­tor in about one-third of all fatal crash­es. Even so, 42 states allow motorists a ‘speed cush­ion’ of up to 10 miles per hour before pulling them over.
