Franchised Prices Up While Independents and Private Party Saw Drop

Jan­u­ary used-car sales totaled 2,354,927 units com­pared to 2,203,419 in Jan­u­ary of last year, an increase of 6.9%; Fran­chised deal­ers saw 14.46% increase to 831,155 from 726,149 units; Inde­pen­dent deal­ers jumped 16.8% to 828,685 from 709,184; Pri­vate Party slipped more than 9% to 695,087 from year ago’s 768,085.

Fran­chised Trans­ac­tion Prices Up 6.83% to $12,666 from $11,856:
Inde­pen­dents fell 2.66% to $6,837, Pri­vate Party dropped 20.35%, from $8,469 to $6,746.

Total Value for Used Sales Was $20.9B, Up from $20.1B:
In Jan­u­ary, about 5.9M con­sumers were actively shop­ping for UV, down 4.6% vs. year ago.

Num­ber of Sub-prime Buy­ers Soared Nearly 60% Vs. Year Ago:
But tight­en­ing BHPH reg­u­la­tions didn’t ham­per BHPH sales – grew 8.2%.
