Franchised Prices Up While Independents and Private Party Saw Drop

January used-car sales totaled 2,354,927 units compared to 2,203,419 in January of last year, an increase of 6.9%; Franchised dealers saw 14.46% increase to 831,155 from 726,149 units; Independent dealers jumped 16.8% to 828,685 from 709,184; Private Party slipped more than 9% to 695,087 from year ago’s 768,085.

Franchised Transaction Prices Up 6.83% to $12,666 from $11,856:
Independents fell 2.66% to $6,837, Private Party dropped 20.35%, from $8,469 to $6,746.

Total Value for Used Sales Was $20.9B, Up from $20.1B:
In January, about 5.9M consumers were actively shopping for UV, down 4.6% vs. year ago.

But tightening BHPH regulations didn’t hamper BHPH sales – grew 8.2%.
