Used Car Sales Healthy in January But Pricing Stagnant, Spinella Says

Used car sales were approach­ing 2.3M unit mar­ket, up 4% from Jan­u­ary 2012; Inde­pen­dent deal­ers are more than 15% ahead of their 2012 pace, and fran­chised deal­ers are ahead 14%; pri­vate par­ty sales are down about 16% — trend start­ed in last quar­ter of 2012 and should reverse course in Spring.

Trans­ac­tion prices down 2.73% for fran­chised deal­ers com­pared to Jan­u­ary of last year.

Days’ Sup­ply Will Be Around 49.9 Days Vs. 44.2 Days in Jan­u­ary 2012:
Grow­ing sup­ply of trucks and pas­sen­ger cars part of price prob­lem.
