Ford and GM Competing at CES to Take Infotainment Lead

Both Ford Motor Co. and Gen­er­al Motors intro­duced open plat­form soft­ware kits at the Con­sumer Elec­tron­ics Show in Las Vegas that will enable devel­op­ers to cre­ate appli­ca­tions for use in vehi­cles – as com­pe­ti­tion to lead the mar­ket in the info­tain­ment trend. Ford’s Sync AppLink sys­tem links smart­phones to the onboard info­tain­ment sys­tem; GM’s con­nec­tiv­i­ty sys­tem was devel­oped in part­ner­ship with Pana­son­ic and will avail­able in late 2013 on cer­tain 2014 mod­els.
