Crossover Utility Vehicles Expected to Play Significant Role at Detroit Auto Show
In January, the North American International Auto Show is expected to be flooded with downsized crossover-utility vehicles. These displays will include the Honda Urban SUV Concept, Lincoln MKC, and BMW X1. As fuel prices nudge up, small cars are rapidly gaining ground. B– and C– segment models have jumped from 13% of overall US models to 20% since 2005. The subcompact and compact crossover niches fit nicely with the trend.
