Chrysler Sales Beat Analyst Expectations in September

Chrysler Group LLC beat ana­lyst expec­ta­tions as its Sep­tem­ber sales rose 12 per­cent, the automaker’s best Sep­tem­ber sales total in five years.

The Auburn Hills automak­er sold 142,041 vehi­cles last month; Sep­tem­ber also marked the 30th con­sec­u­tive month that Chrysler has expe­ri­enced year-over-year sales gains.

Gen­er­al Motors Co. said its Sep­tem­ber sales rose 1.5 per­cent to 210,245 vehi­cles, mark­ing its best Sep­tem­ber since 2008.

Volk­swa­gen of Amer­i­ca Inc. report­ed its best Sep­tem­ber sales fig­ures since 1972. The Ger­man automak­er said its 36,663 sales were up 34.4 per­cent from the same month a year ago. Sales were fueled in part by the Pas­sat and Tiguan, which both post­ed their best Sep­tem­ber ever with sales of 9,500 and 2,200 units, respec­tive­ly.

Hyundai Motor Co. said its Sep­tem­ber sales were the best ever, up 15 per­cent com­pared to the same month last year.

Hyundai sold 60,025 vehi­cles. Sales of its Elantra com­pact car rose 27 per­cent.
