Beggs: BHPH Businesses See Benefit

Today’s trade-in has about 3 to 4 more years on it than cars con­sumers were bring­ing in just a few years ago, accord­ing to Black Book. And the stores most likely to gain from this trend are the buy-here, pay-here busi­nesses, says senior edi­tor Ricky Beggs.

The cur­rent trade-ins, about 900,000 expected this year, are older mod­els as peo­ple hold onto their cars longer.

“These trade-ins today are model years 2000 to 2005, and Black Book believes the mileage on those vehi­cles is between 150,000 and 200,000, sig­nif­i­cantly higher than mileage on trade-ins a few years ago,” said Black Book’s Ricky Beggs, explain­ing why BHPH deal­ers are likely to benefit.
