Verizon Steps Up Presence in Automotive Telematics

Telem­at­ics is con­tin­u­ing to infil­trate the auto­mo­tive mar­ket. Ver­i­zon just announced it’s buy­ing Hugh­es Telem­at­ics for $612 mil­lion in cash to gain access to the com­pa­ny machine-to-machine (M2M) con­nect­ed car tech­nolo­gies and ser­vices. Both com­pa­nies occu­py dif­fer­ent seg­ments, with Hugh­es sup­ply­ing hard­ware and soft­ware that make up numer­ous in-car tech­nolo­gies and appli­ca­tions.
