Tesla Motors Says Profits Will Arrive in 2012, DOD Seeing Green Cuts


Tes¬≠la Motors CEO Elon Musk said 8,000 units need to be moved for pos¬≠i¬≠tive cash flow, and the com¬≠pa¬≠ny is ‚Äúhigh¬≠ly con¬≠fi¬≠dent‚ÄĚ it will reach 20,000 in sales next year. Musk told share¬≠hold¬≠er the com¬≠pa¬≠ny should hit 25% in gross prof¬≠it mar¬≠gin and an oper¬≠at¬≠ing mar¬≠gin in the low-to-mid teens. Right now, the com¬≠pa¬≠ny is still get¬≠ting through anoth¬≠er quar¬≠ter¬≠ly report¬≠ing of loss¬≠es ‚ÄĒ $89.9 mil¬≠lion net loss in first quar¬≠ter ‚Äď but the com¬≠pa¬≠ny says sales of the new¬≠ly launched Mod¬≠el S will be the divid¬≠ing line, with most of its rev¬≠enue this year com¬≠ing from this elec¬≠tric sedan‚Ķ   The U.S. Dept. of Defense is work¬≠ing on get¬≠ting Con¬≠gress to fund more of its green fuels and tech¬≠nolo¬≠gies for its fleets, jets, and trucks, but there‚Äôs resis¬≠tance this year to sup¬≠port¬≠ing it. Lan¬≠guage in the House and Sen¬≠ate ver¬≠sions of the defense bud¬≠get large¬≠ly bans the use of alter¬≠na¬≠tive ener¬≠gy like bio¬≠fu¬≠els, pro¬≠hibit¬≠ing the mil¬≠i¬≠tary from pur¬≠chas¬≠ing any alter¬≠na¬≠tive fuel that costs more than tra¬≠di¬≠tion¬≠al fos¬≠sil fuels like oil.
