Ford Motor Co. was not direct­ly affect­ed by the earth­quake in Japan a month ago, but its fac­to­ries in the Asia-Pacif­ic region are short on Japan­ese-made parts. For all OEMs and sup­pli­ers, the dis­as­ter is reveal­ing the com­plex­i­ty of the glob­al sup­ply chain. Ford CEO Alan Mulal­ly made com­ments fol­low­ing an event Wednes­day hon­or­ing him as Auto­mo­tive Exec­u­tive of the Year.
