The Motor Vehi­cle Right to Repair Act, if enact­ed, would require auto man­u­fac­tur­ers to make avail­able, at a rea­son­able cost, all of the diag­nos­tic and repair infor­ma­tion they cur­rent­ly pro­vide their fran­chised auto deal­ers. The leg­is­la­tion pro­vides strong pro­tec­tion for pro­pri­etary infor­ma­tion as well as trade secrets. The intend­ed result would be to low­er auto repair costs by increas­ing the num­ber of shops cus­tomers could fre­quent for repairs.
