Tesla Motors Takes Over Storied NUMMI Plant

There are many sto­ries asso­ci­at­ed with the Fre­mont, CA, NUMMI assem­bly plant that Toy­ota took over from GM in the ear­ly 1990s. The work­ers were con­sid­ered the worst auto work­force in the U.S. and even sab­o­taged some of the vehi­cles they made. Tes­la Motors offi­cial­ly took own­er­ship of the 5.5 mil­lion square-foot com­plex of the for­mer NUMMI plant on Oct. 1.
