With a car stolen every 33 sec­onds and only 43% recov­ered, car thefts are still a major prob­lem despite improv­ing antitheft sys­tems. Track­ing tech­nol­o­gy like OnStar that can dis­able a vehi­cle and LoJack that radios loca­tion can be defeat­ed by sophis­ti­cat­ed thieves if own­ers are slow to notice theft and police are slow to coor­di­nate with track­ing com­pa­ny allow­ing sys­tem defeat.
