Despite the con­stant drum­beat of bad news com­ing out of Detroit and oth­er auto­mo­tive indus­try cen­ters, it isn’t all bad for after­mar­ket com­pa­nies. The news seems to focus on indus­try con­sol­i­da­tion, but this is a nat­ur­al cir­cum­stance for the indus­try, and the num­ber of after­mar­ket firms is actu­al­ly up over last year. Too often the after­mar­ket busi­ness is lumped in with the broad­er auto­mo­tive indus­try.
