Automak­ers are strug­gling in this poor econ­o­my where US con­sumers are delay­ing major pur­chas­es and then buy­ing more less prof­itable small cars than prof­itable light trucks. Detroit-3 saw the change com­ing but did not antic­i­pate the speed of it and are left with wait­ing two more years before they have new small cars for the US mar­ket.
