Automatic transmissions are convenient to drive, but the torque convertor hurts fuel economy compared with a manual transmission. Getrag’s new Powershift automated-manual transmission allows full automatic operation without a torque convertor or manual shifting without a clutch pedal. It is expected to appear in new 4- and 6-cylinder Chryslers.
